Your South Africa Cell Number to South Africa: area code - phone number
South Africa to Your South Africa Cell Number: area code - phone number

Important: Toll free 800 numbers based in the US can not always be called from overseas cell phones.

Please Note: There is no support for service when roaming outside of South Africa.

Rental Setup

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the language setting for your phone is set to English.

For SIM Card Purchases
Snap out the Vodacom South Africa SIM chip from the credit-card sized SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone's SIM card slot. If unsure, please consult your phone's manual.

  • Be sure that battery is charged
  • If prompted for a PIN number, your default PIN is "0000" (4 zeros) and then press talk or send.

PIN and PUK codes
The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code prevents unauthorized access to the SIM card in your phone. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times in a row, the SIM card will be blocked. To un-block the SIM card, you will need to enter the PUK (Personal Unlock Key) code. Please consult your manual for how to disable the PIN-check feature

Activating your service

  • You must dial 100 SEND from within South Africa to activate your SIM Card.
  • You must also add the initial recharge voucher code that was included with your package, in order to make and receive calls. The initial credit voucher is a small printed paper that reads "R55 Vodacom Virtual" found with the SIM Card/SIM Manual. Add the credit by dialing 100 SEND from your mobile phone in South Africa, and following the voice instructions to enter the Recharge PIN.

Call customer care by dialing 111 SEND toll-free to set up your voice mail. You can access your voice mail and record your greeting by dialing 121 SEND and follow the voice prompt.

Checking Your Credit
You can check your account balance any time you like by dialing *100# SEND, or by calling 5151 to listen to an automated message.

Purchasing More Talk Time
Recharge cards called "Vodacom top up vouchers" may be purchased in many denominations between 20 and 200 ZAR, at many outlets including convenience stores and gas stations. Even if you have zero credit, since incoming calls are always free, you will still be able to receive calls.

Adding Talk Time

  • Scratch off the scratch-off area to expose your unique PIN number.
  • Dial *100*01*[PIN]# and press the SEND key
  • A message should appear confirming your credit has been added.

If you are unable to make or receive calls switch networks on your phone.  Consult your phone’s manual.  The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Available Network/Change Network > Search
  • Select a different network carrier than the one currently shown.

If you are receiving no reception bars, emergency calls only, SOS, or no service
check your phones band setting:  Consult your phone’s manual. The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Network Setup >Band
  • Make sure you select 900/1800
