Our SIM cards for China are available as a physical SIM or as an eSIM. Both versions offer identical service; 20GB of 5G data, 15 minutes of calls and 50 SMS messages. In addition, with the built in VPN, you can access websites typically blocked by the “Great Firewall of China” such as Google, WhatsApp and others. The service is good for 30 days but can be renewed if necessary.
Activation is easy. For the physical SIM card, put the SIM in your phone, make sure data roaming is set to on and within seconds, you will pick up a network and your service will begin. For the eSIM, we will email you a QR code and once you turn on the line in your settings, you will be up and running. The service will work in the US and will start the 30 day service so please keep that in mind. In addition, the service works not only in China but also in surrounding destinations including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao and Japan.
We strongly recommend that you download common apps onto your phone – which you can do prior to your departure. WeChat is commonly used to make calls in China and we highly recommend that you download it. To call the US and Canada, we recommend using a calling app such as Whatsapp, Talkatone* or FaceTime. Alipay is also an important app to consider as 90% of all payments in China are now electronic.
