Please be sure to read these instructions prior to departing for
St. Lucia. If you're consulting your phone's user guide, please defer to the instructions below with regard to the use of your St. Lucia SIM card. (Phone manuals are written in general terms.) |
 |
Requirements:
A GSM cellular phone with no service-provider lock. If you are unsure whether your phone is locked or not, test it with a SIM card from a service provider other than your own. The phone must be capable of functioning in the 900 MHz GSM band. (More bands are ok.)
Note: This SIM card is NOT compatible with the Motorola V66 cell phone.
Your St. Lucian SIM Card Cell Phone Number:
Your St. Lucia phone number is the center number on the credit card sized plastic card containing you SIM. It begins with "17". Once you are in St. Lucia, you can also retrieve your phone number from the handset by dialing 900 and selecting option 2.
Dialing information
St. Lucia is part of the North American Numbering Plan. In order for people to call your St. Lucia cell phone number from the US and Canada, they dial as if they are dialing a number in another area code. They would dial 1-758 plus the 7-digit phone number. To call back to the US, one dials 1 + the desired area code and phone number. Keep this in mind when programming phone numbers into your phone's address book, and please be sure to inform anyone who has your St. Lucian cell phone number as to the proper dialing sequence in order to ensure you receive your calls.
To call the UK or another non-North American address, you would dial 011 followed by the country code and the number. (Just as if you were calling from the US!)
Important: Most US toll free numbers are not accessable from overseas. Be sure to get valid international numbers prior to your departure.
What are the dialing instructions between AT&T EZEE mobiles and landlines?
When dialing from landlines to AT&T EZEE numbers, simply put one (1) before the seven digits of the AT&T EZEE number you would like to dial. When dialing from a AT&T EZEE Mobile to any landline within St. Lucia, simply dial all seven digits of the number you are trying to reach. When dialing to toll free numbers, one should dial 1-888-toll free number.

About the PIN Code:
Your AT&T EZEE SIM card comes by default with a PIN (Personal Identification Number) lock code enabled. This is designed to protect the SIM card from unauthorized access but more often than not becomes a nuisance. To disable requests for the PIN code every time you turn on the phone, you'll need to consult your phone manual under "PIN Check", or "SIM lock" to determine how to disable prompts for the PIN code. The PUK code is to be used if you mis-enter the PIN code.
Adding Call Credit:
The currency in St. Lucia is the East Caribbean Dollar (XCD). A $22 XCD (~ $8.25 USD) voucher is included with your SIM card. Additional call credit can be added by purchasing AT&T EZEE recharge cards. They are sold in St. Lucia at tobacco shops, magazine kiosks and any convenience store displaying the AT&T/EZEE logo. Even if you have zero credit - since incoming calls are always free - you will still be able to receive calls.
Once you have purchased a recharge card, simply follow these easy instructions:
- Simply scratch off the grey protective layer to reveal your voucher code
- Access the EZEE menu from the "Extras" tab on your phone menu
- Select the Recharge option

Troubleshooting:
GSM networks broadcast their presence, so your phone will display the name of a local GSM carrier when turned on. If you get a message to the effect of "No network detected", you probably need to manually set your handset to switch to a foreign GSM band. Most GSM carriers in North America use 1900 MHz, while those in other parts of the world use 900/1800 MHz. To change your GSM band, consult your phone manual under "Network".
Customer Service:
If you have questions or problems about your service, EZEE customer service can be reached by dialing 611 from the cell phone, 24 hours a day. The emergency number (Fire, Police, Medical) in St. Lucia is 911.
For problems with your cellular phone, contact Cellular Abroad at 1-310-862-7100 or email support@cellularabroad.com. If you're having a service issue, please call Cellular Abroad or relay a message to us through a contact back in North America and include any alternate phone numbers as well as the best time for us to call. Usually there is a simple fix. (It's also important to document any problems while you're abroad instead of after your return.)
Service Life: Your SIM card and accompanying phone number are good 180 days from initial activation or last recharge of credit. If more than 180 days pass between your first use of the phone, or the last date money was added, your account will be closed and your phone number deactivated.
Note: Toll free 800 numbers based in the US can not be called from overseas cell phones in most cases. If you are able to connect to an 800 number in the US, you will be charged for an international outgoing call.
